IXL - Online Math Skill Practice
IXL is an online website that allows students to practice 3rd-grade math skills. As a teacher, I can (and do) assign specific practice sets to the students, and students can practice skills on their own. IXL automatically generates practice problems with increasing difficulty so that their experience is scaffolded. As a note, the point value for each problem decreases as they solve problems. For example, the first problem earns a student 10 points, but the last several problems are worth only 1! Perserverence wins the day with IXL!
As a parent, you can login to your child's account and monitor their progress. You can see how many "medals" they have earned (little medallions next to a completed quiz), quizzes they've started, and problems solved correctly and incorrectly. It's a great way to see areas of additional need for extra practice.
Below is a parent form for you to browse. A filled out printed version was sent home with your child's Hip Pocket this Wednesday (9/4/13). Please take note of their username and password, and keep this form somewhere safe.
