C3 Weekly #1 - Welcome!

Our first five days have come to a close, and C3 is already blossoming into a wonderful classroom. The first days of school often bring suspense, apprehension, curiosity, wonder, and excitement. At the end of the day, we all want to fit in, be accepted as we are, and grow as a person as well as a student in a community of encouraging friends. We have started to build this environment by learning routines, practicing the rules, and getting to know one another.

One activity we did yesterday was called the Marshmallow Challenge. In groups of four, students had 18 minutes to build a tower using only one yard of string, one yard of masking tape, 20 pieces of dry spaghetti, and a single marshmallow. Below are a few images taken from the first tri-annual Marshmallow Challenge.
We have been using the iPad each day for our morning Daily Language Review work, creating slideshows of our summer, and even creating a movie of our Entering Class procedure. The video below was filmed today using iMovie on the iPad. I guided students through the entire process of directing, filming, and editing the movie. Soon they will be making their own! Click the image below to watch the video on our "Video Procedures" page.

Finally, your child is bringing home their "Hip Pocket" folder today which contains information on Picture Day as well as on creating a "Comfort Kit" in the case on an emergency. Please view those items, sign the front of the Hip Pocket, and send it back to school with your child tomorrow.

Write something about yourself. No need to be fancy, just an overview.
